Biography

Jie Zhang is considered one of the most promising solo pianists in Norway today. She has shown her versatility in performances from China in the East to New York in the West, from Spitsbergen in the Arctic North to Spain and Italy in the South.

She has performed with all the major symphony orchestras in Norway. She has been a soloist at the “Peer Gynt Festival” with the Peer Gynt Chamber Orchestra for an audience of 3,000 (outdoor concert), with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and Oslo Symphony Orchestra in Oslo Concert Hall at Constitution Day celebration. She was invited twice to perform with Donetsk Opera Orchestra for Ukraine President’s wife Ludmilla Alexandrova Yanukovyich in the International Festival World Ballet Stars Gala concert in Ukraine. She has given recitals in major cities throughout Norway, China and, Russia. Jie is also a dedicated performer of chamber music and she regularly collaborates with musicians such as bassoonist Dag Jensen, singer Mari Eriksmoen, violinists Eldbjørg Hemsing, Catharina Chen and, violist Ellen Nisbeth, among others throughout Europe and Scandinavia. With the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra she has toured in Spain, Germany and Denmark, and twice toured in China with Norwegian cellists. She has appeared at many festivals such as the 1st International Festival of Arts “Zvezdniy” in Shelkove, Moscow, Oslo International Chamber Music Festival, Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival, Festspillene in Bergen and Piano International Festival in Moscow. In 2013 she started to play regularly in a trio named ClariNord consisting of clarinet, cello and piano. In the autumn 2013 her trio made a successful audition in Vienna and got accepted as the first ever chamber music group with a wind player to the prestigious European Chamber Music Academy(ECMA). Since then she has continued to attend ECMA sessions and give concerts with her trio in Austria, France,Italy, Lithuania, England, Switzerland, Norway, Poland and the Czech Republic. In 2015 the trio played their debut concert in Wigmore Hall in London. Ms. Jie Zhang was born in Shandong Province in China. At the age of five, she started playing the piano. She later moved to Shanghai where she studied with professor CHEN Qing Feng and graduated from the High School of Music affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory with outstanding final results in 2003. Right after that she moved to Norway and started her studies in the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo with professor Haavard Gimse. During 2006-2007, she was an exchange student in Hochschule für Music und Theater in Hamburg with professor Marian Migdal. Back in Oslo she continued her studies, this time mainly with the world famous pianist, professor Leif Ove Andsnes. She completed her post graduate studies as a soloist performer in 2011. From a very early age she won several prestigious prizes, national as well as international ones such as Asian Music Festival “TOYAMA Cup” 2001 Hong Kong, Grieg International Piano Competition in Oslo. In 2010 she won, as the first foreigner, Princess Astrid ́s Music prize which her teacher professor Håvard Gimse won in 1986, and she was subsequently invited to the Royal Palace for an audience with the Princess. She was awarded Eva Knardahls talent prize in 2007 and twice she has been awarded scholarships by Conoco Phillips. Together with her chamber music quartet she won 1st prize in the Norwegian Chamber Music Competition in 2009 and in 2011.

Jie Zhang er en av de mest lovende solo pianister i Norge i dag. Hun har spilt på konserter fra Kina i øst til New York i vest, fra Svalbard i nord til Spania og Italia i sør.

Jie har spilt med alle de profesjonelle symfoniorkestre i Norge. Hun har vært solist ved Peer Gynt festivalen med Peer Gynt Kammerorkester for et publikum på 3000 (utendørskonsert), med Filharmonien i Bergen, med Kristiansand Symfoniorkester, med Kringkastingsorkesteret, med Trondheim Symfoniorkester og med Oslo Symfoniorkester i Oslo Konserthus på nasjonaldagfeiringen. To ganger har hun vært invitert til og spilt med Donetsk Operaorkester for daværende presidentfrue Ludmila Alexandrova Yanukovych ved den internasjonale festivalen World Ballet Stars gallakonsert i Ukraina.

Hun har opptrådt i viktige byer over hele Norge, i Kina og i Russland. Jie er også en dedikert utøver av kammermusikk og spiller jevnlig med musikere som fagottist Dag Jensen, sopran Mari Eriksmoen, fiolinistene Elbjørg Hemsing og Catharina Chen, bratsjist Ellen Nisbeth. Med Det Norske Kammerorkester har hun turnert i Spania, Tyskland og Danmark, og to ganger har hun turnert i Kina med norske cellister. Hun har deltatt i mange festivaler som 1st International Festival of Arts “Zvezdniy” i Shelkove, Moskva, i Oslo Kammermusikkfestival,Stavanger Internasjonale Kammermusikkfestival, Festspillene i Bergen og Piano International Festival i Moskva. I 2013 var hun med og starte en trio kalt AlbaNord, bestående av klarinett, cello og piano. Høsten 2013 prøvespilte trioen i Wien og ble akseptert som den første kammermusikkgruppe med en blåser ved det prestisjefylte European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA). Siden da har trioen deltatt i samlinger i Østerrike, Frankrike, Litauen og England. De har også turnert i Norge, Polen og Tjekkia. I 2015 skal trioen delta i programmet Showcase i Wigmore Hall i London og kommer også til å gi konserter rundt i Europa og USA. Jie ZHANG er født i Shandong provinsen i Kina. Hun begynte å spille piano da hun var fem år gammel. Senere flyttet hun til Shanghai og studerte under professor CHEN Qing Feng. I 2003 var hun ferdig med den videregående musikkskolen tilknyttet Shanghai Musikkonservatorium. Kort tid etter det flyttet hun til Norge der hun ble opptatt ved Norges musikkhøgskole og begynte å studere under prof Haavard Gimse. I 2006 – 2007 var hun utvekslingsstudent ved Hochschule für Musik und Theater i Hamburg under professor Marian Migdal. Tilbake i Oslo fortsatte hun sine studier, nå først og fremst under prof Leif Ove Andsnes. Hun fullførte sin høyere grad som solist i 2011. Siden da har Jie også arbeidet deltid som akkompagnatør ved Norges musikkhøgskole. Fra ung alder har hun vunnet en rekke prestisjefylte priser, nasjonale så vel som internasjonale: For eksempel, Asian Music Festival “TOYAMA Cup” 2001 i Hong Kong og Grieg International Piano Competition i Oslo. I 2010 vant hun, som den første utlending, Prinsesse Astrids musikkpris og ble deretter invitert til Slottet til en audiens med Prinsessen. Hun fikk Eva Knardahls talentpris in 2007, og to ganger har hun mottatt stipend fra ConocoPhillips. Sammen med sin kammermusikkvartett vant hun 1ste pris i Den Norske Kammermusikkonkurranse i 2009 og 2011.
