José Vicente Castelló
Born in Alicante, Jose-Vicente Castelló is one of the leading horn players in Spain.
He was a student of Prof. Radovan Vlatković at the School of Music “Reina Sofía” in Madrid where Her Majesty Queen Sofia awarded him the “Most Outstanding Student” Price.
Parallel to his musical studies, he studied Hispanic Philology at the University of Alicante.
He has received several international prizes and awards, including the “Barenreiter Urtext Prize” awarded to him at the International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich and “Honorable Mention” in the International Music Competition “Prague Spring”.
He is the Principal Horn of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and before he was principal horn of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Spain).
He collaborates frequently as principal with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Concergebouw Orkest, NDR Hamburg, Staatskapelle Berlin, Philharmonia, RPO and LPO, (London), HR Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Radio France and the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, playing with great conductors as M. Jansons, P. Boulez, D. Baremboim, L. Maazel, B. Haitink, D. Gatti, E.-P. Salonen, V. Jurowsky, A. Nelsons, N. Marriner, J.E. Gardiner, R. Norrington…
Since 2004 is member of the Orchestra Mozart in Bologna (Italy), founded by Claudio Abbado and formed by leading European musicians and furthermore he plays at the Lucerne Festival Orchestra of Switzerland.
He has played as a soloist with orchestras like Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Radio Television Orchestras in Spain and Hungary , and Sinfónica de Galicia (Spain) among others…
In the field of chamber music, he has played with such renowned musicians as Mitsuko Uchida, B. Canino, R. Vlatković, K. Tunemann, Jacques Zoon, Jaime Martin, Paul Meyer, Kim Kashkasian, and members of the Guarneri, Juilliard and Emerson String Quartets.
He has been participant of prestigious Chamber Music Festivals such as Marlboro Music Festival (USA), Festival de Santander (Spain), Edimburg Festival (UK), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany),… and is the artistic director of the festival “Musics en Residencia” in Alella (Barcelona) since 2010.
He is a founding member of the ]W[ Ensemble formed by outstanding members of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
Currently is Horn Professor in the Catalonian High School of Music “ESMUC”, in Barcelona.
